Scholarship Auditions
The objective of WBC’s scholarship program is to reward talent and provide financial support to young boys and girls in Westchester County who are pursuing dance with serious focus and commitment.
Scholarships are intended to support promising dancers, and are awarded primarily for instruction in ballet, but are also available to ballet students who seek training in other forms of dance, including jazz, tap, and modern. Dancers awarded scholarships may apply their financial award toward dance training or the participation fees associated with performing with Westchester Ballet Company.
WBC scholarship recipients are expected to audition for and to become members of Westchester Ballet Company, and to be available for roles selected for them by the Artistic Directors in WBC productions, such as The Nutcracker.
Auditions are judged by impartial, third-party adjudicators who make recommendations based on dancers’ talent, motivation, and potential, as demonstrated in the auditions.
All WBC scholarship recipients are granted a financial award no matter their financial need. Dancers whose family household incomes are less than the median household income for Westchester County, as calculated by the most recent U.S. Census American Community Survey are eligible for larger scholarship awards. Financial need is verified confidentially via a third party.
There are no costs associated with participating in WBC scholarship auditions, and whether or not a student receives a scholarship in a particular year does not affect his or her chances of receiving one in the future. All auditioning candidates, no matter what the outcome, are encouraged to participate in future WBC scholarship auditions.
The number of WBC scholarships awarded each year is determined by funding availability.
Due to the logistical and financial challenges posed by COVID-19, WBC was unable to offer scholarships for the 2020-21 season. This year auditions will be held on Thursday, September 9. Details and pre-registration form will be available in August.
